SUFFS

HOW WILL THEY DO IT WHEN IT’S NEVER BEEN DONE?

From the singular mind of Shaina Taub, this “remarkable, epic new musical” (Variety), boldly explores the victories and failures of a struggle for equality that’s far from over.

It’s 1913 and the women’s movement is heating up in America, anchored by the suffragists — “Suffs,” as they call themselves — and their relentless pursuit of the right to vote. Reaching across and against generational, racial, and class divides, these brilliant, flawed women entertain and inspire us with the story of their hard-won victory in an ongoing fight. So much has changed since the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment over a century ago, and yet we’re reminded sometimes we need to look back, in order to march fearlessly into the future.

THE HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL

Get amped! THE HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL — the new musical comedy inspired by the timeless hits of HUEY LEWIS AND THE NEWS — is coming to Broadway with a rhythm that’ll drive you wild. Step into an era when the airwaves sizzled and bands with platinum dreams rocked every dive bar.

A raucous rom-com wrapped in pure musical joy, THE HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL centers on a couple of thirty-somethings who know exactly what they want from life—until they find each other. It’s going to take The Power Of Love — and a little help from their friends — to show them the way. Jam-packed with HUEY LEWIS megahits like “Working for a Living”, “Stuck with You” and “If this is It”, this shamelessly fun show will have you dancing in your seat (and all the way home). Don’t miss Broadway’s newest feel-great musical, THE HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL, where it’s Hip to be Square.

THE WIZ

This groundbreaking twist on The Wizard of Oz changed the face of Broadway—from its iconic score packed with soul, gospel, rock, and finger-snapping 70s funk to its stirring tale of Dorothy’s journey to find her place in a contemporary world.

Conjuring up an Oz unlike anything ever seen before, the creative team is helmed by director Schele Williams (The Notebook, revival of Disney’s Aida) and includes choreographer JaQuel Knight (Beyonce’s “Single Ladies”), William F. Brown (book), Charlie Smalls (music & lyrics), Amber Ruffin (additional material), and Joseph Joubert (music supervision, orchestrations, & music arrangements).  They are joined by scenic designer and Academy Award winner Hannah Beachler (Black Panther, Beyonce’s Black is King and Lemonade), costume designer and Emmy and two-time Academy Award nominee Sharen Davis (Ray, Dreamgirls), lighting designer and Barrymore Award winner Ryan J. O’Gara (Thoughts of a Colored Man) and wig designer and Drama Desk award winner Charles LaPointe (MJ the Musical).

UNCLE VANYA

Seemingly Sonya (Alison Pill) and her uncle Vanya (Steve Carell) have devoted their lives to managing the family farm in isolation, but when her celebrated, ailing father (Alfred Molina) and his charismatic wife (Anika Noni Rose) move in, their lives are upended. In the heat of the summer, the wrong people fall in love, desires and resentments erupt, and the family is forced to reckon with the ghosts of their unlived lives.

Director Lila Neugebauer and playwright Heidi Schreck collaborate on the premiere of this Lincoln Center Theater production of UNCLE VANYA, which pairs Chekhov's enduring masterpiece with one of America's most celebrated contemporary playwrights in a strikingly immediate new translation.

MY SON'S A QUEER (BUT WHAT CAN YOU DO?)

Straight — well, not exactly straight — from a smash-hit run in London's West End comes Rob Madge’s triumphant and hilarious celebration of identity, creativity, and the profound bond between a parent and their child.

When Rob was twelve, they attempted a full-blown Disney parade in their house for their grandma. As Rob donned wigs and played Mary Poppins, Ariel, Mickey Mouse and Belle, their dad doubled as Stage Manager, Sound Technician and Goofy. Unfortunately, Dad missed all his cues and pushed all the floats in the wrong direction. Mom mistook Aladdin for Ursula. The costumes went awry. Grandma had a nice time, though.

My Son’s a Queer (But what can you do?) is the joyous autobiographical story of social-media sensation Rob Madge as they set out to recreate that infamous parade – and this time, nobody, no, nobody is gonna rain on it.

SUNSET BOULEVARD

Sunset Boulevard comes to the St. James Theatre after its hit run on the West End. Nicole Scherzinger reprises her Olivier Award nominated performance as Norma Desmond in this Andrew Lloyd Webber musical based on the Billy Wilder film of the same name. Norma Desmond was a famous star in silent films…many years ago. Now she’s trying to make her comeback with the help of ambitious screenwriter Joe Gillis…but he’s out for his own ends. Book and lyrics by Don Black and Christopher Hampton and direction from Jamie Lloyd.

YELLOW FACE

Tony Award ® winner and three-time Pulitzer finalist David Henry Hwang (M. Butterfly) will make his Roundabout debut with the Broadway premiere of Yellow Face, his hilarious is-he-or-isn’t-he comedy of identity, show business, and (perhaps) autobiography. Starring Daniel Dae Kim (Lost) and directed by Tony nominee Leigh Silverman (Violet). Inspired by real events, the playwright’s fictionalized doppelgänger protests yellowface casting in Miss Saigon, only to mistakenly cast a white actor as the Asian lead in his own play. This Obie Award-winning and Pulitzer finalist play is a laugh-out-loud farce about the complexities of race.
